The Parking Lot embraces Drupal

The Parking Lot is a creative agency that loves building Flash websites. Here's what their managing partner, Evan Van Lissum, had to say about Drupal, and their recent decision to make it their platform of choice going forward.

We are a creative web agency. We love to be creative. We love to design. One of the main frustrations of CMS based websites was that the CMS tends to limit your creativity. Most systems are very inflexible. For a designer, marketer, or creative person, these robust systems are a nightmare. On the other hand, I do understand the need to update a website on regular basis. We've been creating beautiful websites for 10 years, and recently we decided to use Drupal exclusively when it comes to database driven websites.

Our reasons:

  • Open source with a huge community building and developing on it. It is impossible to create this with a team of your own.
  • Drupal is more than just a CMS. It is much broader, since so many people are working on it, writing modules, all over the world.
  • With Drupal, we are not limited in our design or creativity (this is the main reason in fact). We can create very creative websites which are database driven. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!
  • It is free or very cheap anyway to use and not too complex to develop (compare this with .NET for example.)

Case Study:

This client of ours, Vredeseilanden (Islands of Peace), is a NGO striving to
make the world a better place. They have a lot of content to share with the world, so a database driven website was necessary. At the same time, their look and feel is professional. And thirdly, a NGO has limited financial recourses. Drupal was the way to go. This very successful implementation, persuaded us to use Drupal as our main CMS.
